Zen Yoga Session

Urban Yoga invites you to a special Zen Yoga class so you can experience the benefits and uniqueness of this type of yoga.

'Zen' is very of the moment and inextricably linked to mindfulness which has recently gained main-stream popularity and credence as helping to reduce stress and anxiety and improve mental health. Zen Yoga emphases alignment, energy, mindfulness, meditation and body/mind awakening.

This yoga is designed to open and unblock the body in preparation for sitting, to develop a deeper awareness of the body, and as an opportunity to practice "becoming one” with what’s happening in the moment and so cultivate deep sensations of relaxation and calm. Zen Yoga emphasises three intertwined areas – physical alignment, the flow of energy in the body and awareness or mindfulness. 

Postures and movements are used to bring the body into focus so that we can notice any tightnesses or restrictions and then being aware can cause them to release and so releasing our minds to become more open, compassionate and released. And in Zen it is believed that the energy flow in the body has two basic dimensions: problem-solving – boosting our health & wellbeing, making life better, and feeling more alive and the condition in which we realise that there was never a problem in the first place.

And so through Zen Yoga practice we stretch the body and energy routes, and guide our energy in beneficial directions as energy and consciousness are inextricably linked – when we change our energy, we change our consciousness and vice versa.

Deep Release for Tight Muscles

Frustrated by tight muscles limiting activities?
Fed up with feeling stiff, tight and/or achy?
Want to keep fit and injury free but unsure of how best to do this?
Want to get more stretched out?

This 2 hour workshop is specifically designed for common problem areas which means that we will focus on effectively releasing and really stretching out the shoulders, hips, hamstrings and low back using specific yoga postures, sports therapy techniques, rollers and trigger-pointing, which will ease tension and stiffness bringing relief and unlocking those areas. 

We will also work on strengthening muscles to bring support and stability to ease issues and help keep you fit and injury free. 

You will be given special tips and techniques to use at home to help keep those areas freer, stronger and in good shape after the session.

Partner Yoga Session

A fun and dynamic workshop of yoga postures for twos; so double the fun!

**NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE NECESSARY**

This session will introduce you to some wonderfully fun and effective ways to experience yoga with a partner. Playful, sometime challenging, and sometime relaxing, Partner Yoga will deepen and expand your yoga practice and build trust, connection and communication with another, and help each other to get even more from yoga than experienced alone.

You will support, help and strengthen each other as you help your partner with challenging postures and get deeper into a pose or stretch with each other's support.

You will explore how you can compliment each other, find the balance between activity and relaxation and let your creativity flow! Partner Yoga is above all fun and different.

So, if that sounds like fun and looks like something you'd like to do, then grab your places and sign up a spouse, partner, friend or other… or just by yourself and we will partner you up with someone at the workshop.

Upside Down Balance Workshop II

Sunday 20 May at 3:30pm - 5:30pm at Beechwood Club, Fishponds

This is a fun & relaxed workshop designed for those of you looking to broaden your yoga experience and discover the fun of being upside down.

In this workshop you will explore headstands, arm balances and other exciting types of balance postures.

Upside down 'Inverted' poses have deep calming, energising and mind-focusing effects and as well as strenthening your body. And you will gain in confidence and empower yourself to acheive things you may have thought impossible, which will filter through into your everyday life.

This workshop is filled with useful tips and information on the techniques and knowledge needed to achieve these poses in a safe and fun way.

Core Strength Workshop

Fed up with feeling weaker in the core than you'd like? 
Frustrated by back stiffness, aches and/or pain?
Prefer to feel stronger and more toned? 
Want better better balance and stability?
Want to feel fitter? 

This workshop is designed to help you get fitter and stronger in your core and back as you'll learn effective yoga postures and other proven exercises and techniques in the session, which you can take away and use at home too.

You will effectively release, stretch out and strengthen as well as support and stabilise your core (abdominal) muscles and low back. 

This will help ease tension and stiffness, bringing relief to that area, help keep you injury free as well as tone and firm up your belly area. 

Want better balance? Well you will learn how a strong core can improve your balance and stability too.

And for those who run/cycle etc, much power comes from the core so you can improve performance when you develop strong, stable core muscles.
